Your ID in Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch is presented digitally between your device and the identity reader, so you’ll never need to show or hand over your iPhone or Apple Watch to any business.

Your ID in Apple Wallet is secure with Face ID, a built-in security feature of iPhone. This makes it so only you can present your driver’s license or state ID in person or in app.
Carrying your physical ID.
You’ll still need to carry a physical ID for use with law enforcement and venues where proof of age is required but mobile IDs are not yet accepted. In the future, you can look forward to more places accepting ID in Apple Wallet.
How to add your ID to Apple Wallet.
To add your ID to your iPhone and any paired Apple Watch, open Apple Wallet and tap the plus sign (+) at the top-right corner of the screen. Select Driver’s License or State ID, then follow the onscreen instructions to start the setup process.
How to present at a business.
When in person at a select business, present your ID in Apple Wallet on iPhone or Apple Watch by holding your device near the identity reader. Review the requested information, confirm and you're done.
How to present your ID to TSA
Breeze through security with your ID in Apple Wallet on iPhone. Double-click the side button, unlock with Face ID, and select your ID. Hold iPhone near the TSA reader, then review the requested information and confirm with Face ID. After this is complete, get your photo taken by TSA, then you’re on your way.

ID in Apple Wallet is available in select U.S. states and territories, and is accepted at select U.S. airports and TSA checkpoints (travelers should check if their airport accepts mobile ID before traveling and refer to airport checkpoint signage to confirm availability), as well as at select businesses and organizations in person, in app, and online. To use ID in Wallet or verify ID using an iPhone, software and device requirements apply; see here for details. ID in Wallet is not a replacement for a physical ID which may still be needed (e.g., by request of law enforcement).
